2018 F150 XLT Crew Cab 4WD 2.7L EcoBoost... 325hp, 400 lb. ft. torque, 10 speed automagic
ascended to the crew cab master race, bit bummed about losing the 6'4" bed but i’m sure it’ll be fine
a bit of chrome here and there to blind other drivers
2018 tail lamps look better than the 2015-2017 ones
the tailgate seems to be around the same weight, maybe slightly lighter, than the 2015 ram 1500 it replaced. the new 2019 ram’s tailgates are quite lighter but the price difference of the one i looked at was a matter of $200 difference in monthly payments
gotta get a floor mat
built in tailgate step is handy
IMPORTED FROM DETROIT (ok dearborn is pretty close to detroit though)... When I visited my childhood friend who lives in Detroit recently, we did the F150 factory tour. May or may not have influenced the decision.
dat cavernous engine bay... this is what a 2.7L engine looks like in a fullsize truck engine bay
goodyear wrangler tires and rear leaf springs... my old ram was noticeably more comfortable on rough/unpaved roads but it’s not too jarring
dat speedo + wheel... easy to read gauges, column shifter with 5 modes - normal, tow, wet/snow, eco, sport
has the 302A package which includes navigation + heated power front seats, towing stuff and this one also has blind spot + trailer brake control. also has a rear locking differential which is a plus... also has auto start/stop
i haven’t renamed my flashdrive yet
dat center console area, plenty o’ storage... has column shifter, higher trims have the shifter right here
you could store a lada in there
window + light switches. i like the door handle location actually
mercedes S class rear legroom... 2 USB ports back there too which is nice on family road trips
the key to your heart

Nice! Two things jump out at me though. No push to start? kinda shocked when I see a new vehicle without it. Also, the 2.7 engine bay shot reminds me of my 225 Slant 6 sitting in a bay that could take the 360ci V8 or maybe even bigger.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 11:50 |

push to start I think is only available on Lariats and higher trims
this is a pretty loaded XLT but the Lariats at my local Ford dealer were quite a lot more

Nice truck, I think Edmunds tested that very configuration and got a 0-60 time in 5.7 seconds! They said it was easier to get in 4WD because of less wheel slippage, pretty fast, which I know back in my Hemi Ram forum days was all we would talk about. Drag racing our Hemi’s that is, until the Titan 5.6L came along. Pretty exciting times we live in when the most popular and smallest F150 motor is faster than both those big V8s.
However, I got a 2015 2.7L myself in Supercab 6.5ft bed form and I honestly think it’s the best vehicle I have owned period, for overall usability, practicality, costs and enjoyment. Keep off the boost and you may actually get good mpg.
I’ve owned over 20 vehicles of various types, including E46 & E90 manual BMW sedans (still own), Acura Integra GS-R, various VWs, Corvette, Mustang GT, etc. But I think this truck I like the most overall.

Mmmmm. Nice. They should stick the 2.7 in the Ranger.

Welcome, brother Nibby.
You’re in good company.
Enjoy it.

Go back 20 years ago, tell 21 year old me that a Ford with a 2.7 Liter V6 has 75 more horsepower than the Vortec 350 in his ‘96 Chevy Silverado (and it’s not even the best V6 option available).
Mind would explode.

That thing is too nice to haul firewood. What am I to do when I get a new truck? I’ll need two trucks! One respectable. One despicable.
Congrats!
![]() 06/18/2018 at 11:57 |

Thanks! Usually I move around furniture and stuff for the house... my parents like borrowing it for gardening and flowers. I use the bed a lot for sending/picking up/fixing up old computers and some woodworking, lugging my ATV around, tossing dead bodies in water, etc.

I have been entertaining thoughts of trading my 2013 F150 up for an 18 but I go shopping and then look into monthly payments and I get scared. I’m not sure I am willing to up my monthly payment by $200 or more at this point in my life.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 11:58 |

The torque #s are insane... pretty much identical to the 5.7L Hemi I had. Oh and it moves quite nice too but I don’t want to stress the engine much on a brand new vehicle

F150 OPPO MASTER RACE UNITE!
Now you know why I was bugging you about the 2.7L a few days ago :P
How many miles you got on yours so far? Things you like/don’t like?
![]() 06/18/2018 at 11:59 |

Nibby pls, no murder
![]() 06/18/2018 at 11:59 |

That would be pretty sweet, as a top trim engine

Very nice! What color is this?
Obligatory ‘Murrica

I quite like it a lot so far... as I wrote to someone else below, haven’t accelerated hard yet but it does seem to have power on tap. The interior is quite nice and the fit + finish is definitely better than my old truck (2015 Ram 1500). Has plenty of luxurious features but also has nice comfy cloth seats which are much easier to deal with in the summer and winter

tossing dead bodies in water
I hope you at least had a tonneau cover, that’s an easy way to get popped otherwise. Much easier than getting one out of a trunk though.

Pickup trucks just keep getting nicer and nicer...
Congratulations- looks fantastic!

it’s just called magnetic
my sister has a 2017 jeep compass in a similar color(the new one, much better than the shitbox old one) and this one looks much nicer
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:04 |

mine went up $100 but it’s crew cab vs. quad cab, has things like navigation, heated seats, blind spot monitor, tow package, etc. that my ram did not have
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:05 |
|
You’re good. I typed out a thicc response, but Kinja was being Kinja. Here’s a screenshot.
I fucking love it. It had 10 miles when we bought it January of last year.
It’s currently sitting at 44k.

Thanks mate!
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:05 |
|
oh yeah, I’ve got to get a new one since the one for my Ram is for 6'4" beds not 5'7"
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:05 |
|
How’s the 10 speed so far? Is it the same one in the Mustang co-developed with GM?
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:09 |
|
awesome, thanks a lot! i can’t believe 0-60 in 5.6 seconds but I’ll take your word for it that it’s faster than a CRV
it is definitely comfortable but I think my ram was slightly more comfy due to no leaf springs in the rear. Not terribly noticeable but it is still a refined truck and smooth ride. Surprised how quiet it is inside and it shifts gears smoothly (though that 8 speed in the Ram was really something else, buttery smooth).
Mine’s also got 3.73 gears... I need to find a tri fold tonneau and a bed mat. Which site do you recommend for truck parts? I’ve used realtruck.com in the past and it’s great but was just wondering what other decent ones are out there... Thanks again for your feedback!
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:11 |
|
Yeah, same one co-developed with GM. I’ve only put around 60-70 miles so far but it seems pretty responsive and smooth. Shifts are noticeable if you pay attention to them and aren’t intrusive. The 8 speed I had in my previous Ram 1500 was really good though so if this one is half as decent I’ll be happy.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:12 |
|
also I sold my carven exhaust muffler to a local dude for $150 \o/ so i was able to get some money back

What happened to the old maR
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:16 |

leased it, was ending soon
had to pay off a couple o’ payments but they were only $270 a month so it was feasible
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:19 |
|
The 2.7 with the new 10 speed is magical. The best of fuel economy and balls when you want ‘em. The Ram is more comfortable overall though...
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:19 |
|
We got a drop in bedliner when we got the truck from the dealership as part of the deal. I actually ordered a roll up truxport tonneau cover this week because I got a great deal on it from Ford. It’s the better platinum one with thicker vinyl. We had two on the Ranger and it was great.
I should point out that yours is 5.6 with the 10 speed, 3.73, and 4WD. Mine is actually 5.7 or 5.8 iirc because 2WD.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:21 |
|
yeah I would say the Ram seemed more comfortable and turned better but this is just much nicer to be inside
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:22 |
|
Nice, ready for all that construction work.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:24 |
|
Or the only engine. Either way works for me.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:28 |
|
Until you really stomp it that 5.~7ish 0-60 does seem hard to believe... Then one day you put it in sport mode and try burying the right foot and you realize that even though in normal driving the systems endeavor to keep down the RPMs (and the 2.7 has an Insane amount of low torque, so that works well) it will happily spin up to 6500 and crack off some pretty damn crisp shifts and almost before you know it you’ll stop accelerating... Because you’re already at the 105mph limiter. You missed 60 because you blinked.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:31 |
|
The torque curve is nuts. It’s got like 250 ft/lb at 1600 rpm, and from about 2300 to 5200 its tabletop flat at 400...
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:32 |
|
if I could get it in XLT I’d order the 3.0 Powerstroke version in a heartbeat. dat be a nice engine.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:34 |
|
The seats are really comfortable for long distance too. The coil springs in the Ram are great though... The ride difference is real. Ours has the payload package, which has an extra leaf for higher load capacity, surprisingly it doesn’t make it worse unloaded, but a light load is rough, it wants to be either empty or really full.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:42 |
|
hmm i found a tonneau cover and looked it’s just under $400 including installation for drop in at my local dealer
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:43 |
|
or that a 3.0 TD V6 would have more horsepower and torque than the then-current 7.3 Powerstroke.
![]() 06/18/2018 at 12:45 |
|
It’s easy to install on your own. All of my local dealers quoted me like $450 for the tonneau cover plus $350 for installation.
I’ll save the $350 and treat myself to Starbucks after half an hour installing it.

![]() 06/18/2018 at 13:12 |

er sorry
i meant drop in liner. i already ordered a tri fold soft tonneau cover for $225 shipped, easy to install. I like soft folds cause they’re durable and easy to remove entirely

yea, the seats are quite comfy so far. I loved the ones in my Ram cause those were supportive and comfy on long drives... seems pretty similar to that so...
then again, I’m sitting in a 99 Tahoe front passenger seat I turned into an office chair right now
![]() 06/18/2018 at 13:16 |

it seems you can only get the powerstroke with a lariat or higher
![]() 06/18/2018 at 13:17 |

jesus christ, i actually didn’t even look at the torque curve... you’d think it’s a diesel
![]() 06/18/2018 at 13:18 |

damn and i thought 0-60 in 6.5s in the Hemi was quick for a truck

Oh this one is soft too, but it rolls up.

I know, that’s why I said “if I could get it in XLT.”
actually, if I knew someone with a FIN (fleet customer) then I might be able to sneak in, but I think I lose plan pricing if I did that.

Welcome to the oppo 2.7/F-150 club. It’s a good place to be, and I tremendously like my truck. Back in the day I had an 05 F-150 crew cab/5.5 foot bed. I never missed the extra foot back there.

I think I might miss it when I move beds but we’ll see
![]() 06/18/2018 at 13:54 |

![]() 06/18/2018 at 14:19 |

So if you where already PC master race, how many levels have you ascended beyond the rest of humanity?
Also, column shifter > console shifter 10x. Shouldn’t even be legal to sell automatics with console shifters.
.

I am not allowed to disclose that information.
The Ram had a dial, which was actually pretty nice and worked well.

I guess that would work since it wouldn’t be very tall.
Stay safe, you never know when the Illuminati will come after you to prevent you from bringing humanity to a higher astral plane of being.

It’s built like a diesel too. It may be a spark-ignition engine, but it bears more than a passing resemblance to a compression-ignition design.

I have an ecoboost supercrew with the tow and offroad package. I have been very happy with it but I passed 100k miles and that is usually when I say good bye to a vehicle so I will probably trade up soon.

I had no idea you could option bucket seats with a column shifter. Neato.
If you wanted the upgraded headlights, keep an eye on

to see if they’ll make some for the ‘18 trucks.
